Mission Statement:
The mission of the Center for Environmental and Rural Health (CERH) is to develop multidisciplinary teams to understand disease mechanisms and to translate this knowledge in an effort to prevent cancer and adverse reproductive effects, particularly in rural and underserved populations. Since its founding, the Center has brought together nationally and internationally renowned scientists and has facilitated interdisciplinary collaborations focused on basic and translational research in cancer and reproductive biology. The Center’s successes are captured in the following highlights:
- A superb publication record with over 700 publications in the last 6 years.
- An impressive record of grant support totaling more than $75 million in the past 6 years.
- A significant number of prestigious awards to CERH members.
- A remarkable number of collaborations both within and between research cores.
- A truly outstanding translational research effort both in the state of Texas and internationally in Africa, Azerbaijan and China.
Major Aims:
- To provide CERH investigators the intellectual environment and technical resources that will promote innovative and collaborative approaches for environmental health sciences research.
- To expand and further develop community outreach programs particularly directed at rural populations within the State of Texas, including "colonias" along the Texas-Mexico border.
- To initiate research and outreach programs with other TAMU institutions that serve the "border-areas" and minority populations (Laredo, Corpus Christi, Kingsville and Prairie View campuses).
